ST. LOUIS — An upper-level ridge of high pressure forecast to build into our area Sunday and continues into next week.

This heat dome is forecasted to bring record or near-record heat, especially Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We are also expecting high humidity levels as afternoon temperatures push into the upper 90s to around 100.

Monday and Tuesday, both expected to be the hottest days, the air temperature near 100 degrees, then factor in the higher humidity, the "feels-like temperature" could be around 105 to 110 degrees.

The record is expected to be broken on Monday if we hit 100 degrees and the record will likely be broken on Tuesday since we are expecting to be over 97 degrees.

The rest of the week, starting Thursday, is still expected to be in the low to mid 90s with slightly more comfortable humidity levels.

Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even if the windows are cracked. Temperatures inside vehicles can rise almost 20 degrees within the first 10 minutes, even with a window cracked open.

Drink plenty of water and non-alcoholic drinks. Routinely cool-off in an air-conditioned area. Check on relatives and neighbors. If you must be outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade or in an air-conditioned room and limit exercise to early mornings or during the later evening hours.

Do not forget about your pets, if they must be outside, ensure they have shade and fresh, cool water.
